In 2010, When Shanalee’s son, Braydon, was born with a severe reflux condition, she knew that her life would possibly be forever changed. However, she was not ready for the extent to which her baby and his condition would influence her future career as an author. While he was ill and in the process of healing, Shanalee spent many hours each day rocking her son and making up encouraging songs to sing to him.

Braydon’s reflux eventually, and thankfully, went away. However, the melody and the song she had sung to him were stuck in Shanalee’s heart. She eventually wrote down the song, “My Mama Loves Me”, and used it as an inspirational kickoff point for her four-book series titled My Mama Loves Me: I’m Her Little Boy. This series has won a total of five medals, including national as well as international awards.

Shanalee grew up in Texas and was heavily influenced by her Irish immigrant grandparents. They told her intriguing stories and fables of rough Vikings, castles sitting atop green hills and cliffs, and the mysteries of creatures such as leprechauns. This upbringing presently plays a big part in her writing style as well as her overall mission for creating children’s books. With each book she writes, Shanalee wants to let children know that they are loved and to also stimulate their imagination of far-away places, cultures, and adventures.

Presently, Shanalee is writing a series of children’s books all about grandparents and the important role grandparents play in the lives of their grandchildren. Her favorite aspect of being an author is hearing from parents who testify that her books helped them in expressing their love for their children. She has had many emotional, but positive, encounters with parents. These lovely interactions serve as fuel to drive her to continue to spread her message through her impactful children’s books.
